In Washtenaw County we have 14 members of the Michigan Farm Marketing and Agritourism Association. At least two operations that are examples of niche farming, Michigan Yakkers which raises Tibetan Yak along with specialty chickens and ducks on a 10 acre parcel in Salem Township and Renaissance Acres Organic Herb Farm in Webster Township in Whitmore Lake Michigan are both adjacent to Northfield Township.
Northfield Township is undergoing a Master Plan revision and large areas of the township, nearly 75%, will remain agricultural. Our township is uniquely positioned to take advantage of this new age niche farming with close proximity to urban areas and people clamorning for healthy eating alternatives.
