An open letter to those who question my participation with the group Citizens for Responsible Government for Northfield;
At its inception in 2007, the CRGN group heartily endorsed several candidates for election in the last township board election cycle.  I was an active member of that group who participated in its early stages as well as the four trustees.  Six people who are currently on the township board took a very active role with the inception of CRGN, its leadership and/or were endorsed by them.  After the primary of 2008, when I became the contender representing one side of the political ballot, I stepped away from a leadership role to focus on my campaign.  After achieving its goals in the elections, CRGN disbanded.

About two years ago, initial founders of CRGN had concerns about township board members that CRGN had initially supported.  The group reconstituted and redirected their objectives to take an active watchdog role in the local government in Northfield Township.   It is my understanding from their website that the group promotes working in an open and transparent manner for all actions and a high level of integrity.

While I may support the precepts of CRGN, I am not a part of the executive committee.  I do not attend their meetings, nor give direction to its members.  As stated from their website, CRGN does not have elected officials serve in a leadership role within the group and CRGN no longer endorses ANY candidates – only good government.

I have nothing to hide or cover up about my relationship with the history of CRGN and am proud of my previous affiliation and friendships that I made those many years ago that remain today.

For the last two Saturday's I've had the distinct pleasure to work with our high school age youth.  This last Saturday I was honored to judge the St. John Chrysotom Oratorical Festival.  It was open to grades 7-9 in the Junior Division and grades 10-12 in the Senior Division.  Judging was difficult, the finalists were the cream of the crop and their differences were fractional.

Information about the Oratorical Festival can be found here

 The previous Saturday was spent at the Howell Nature Center interacting and observing high school age youth in the Kiwanis Key Leader Program.  Again, I was working with the group that excels above their peers.  This pair of weekends have given me an altogether new perspective on our future generation.  I have high hopes for these future leaders and was very proud to be able to participate.

Information about the Key Leader program can be found here

We need more bicycling legislators to help drive the movement to alternative transportation like bicycling.  These are the people who can make it happen and help to promote more tourism into Michigan.  Follow this link to read what the League of Michigan Bicyclists has to say http://lmb.org/index.php/Blog/thank-you-representative-forlini.html

Thank you for declaring May to be Bicycling Month in Michigan

Candidates, petitions must be filed by May 15th to run for office.

This morning I had a great chance to meet some new people in the township and to visit with some good friends.  The coffee with the supervisor this morning gave me a good chance to hear about what is important to our residents and business owners.    We had a nice little crowd of about 30 persons in attendance throughout the morning.  Thank you to all for your support!

Housing values have been in decline since 2008-2009 in nearly all of Washtenaw County.  The department of Equalization (Assessing) at the county is reporting the first glimmer of stabalization of housing values which is great news for homeowners who have seen the equity in their homes eroding over the last few years.  The full story can be found at this link at the ann arbor dot com website.  The chart at the right shows how Northfield Township has fared amongst our neighboring communities in the county.
